Your kids won't just play outside, they'll feed chickens in the morning, canoe across a five-acre pond, and come home with dirt under their nails and stories they can't stop telling.
Feed chickens, collect eggs, brush goats and learn what it means to care for something that depends on you.
Canoeing and fishing at the pond, field games, garden time and shaded barn spaces keep kids active and curious all day long.
Real responsibilities, not made-up ones. When a camper feeds the goats by themselves for the first time, that pride is earned.
No devices, no screens—just sunshine, pond water, and kids coming home tired, happy and already asking about tomorrow.
We’re not a “farm-themed” camp—we’re a real working farm where kids pitch in, slow down and feel like they belong.

Camp sessions are intentionally small because your child should never be just a number in a crowd.
Here's what a day at camp actually looks like. No two days are exactly the same, but the rhythm stays steady.
Camp mornings start slow — kids arrive, settle in and head out to greet the animals. Before long, they're collecting eggs, brushing goats and learning which chickens like to be held and which ones definitely don't.
From there, the day unfolds the way a summer day should. There's time at the pond for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. There are garden projects, nature walks through shady trails and big grassy fields where the only rule is to keep moving and keep exploring.
Some days it's water balloons and the slip-n-slide. Other days it's building something, solving something or getting elbow-deep in a craft. And when the Virginia heat sets in, there's always shade, cold water and a snack break waiting.
By pickup, they're sunburned, tired and already asking to come back tomorrow.

Here’s what local families say about summers at The Red Barn Farm.
"The owners have made this place a wonderful experience for children and families. We heard stories about each animal, learned more about the animals, and spent time getting lots and lots of animal cuddles. I can't wait to go back again soon!"
- Jennifer P. ★★★★★
"My goddaughter has been all over RVA at various summer camps through the years, but when given the option, she chose 3 weeks of camp at the Red Barn Farm! The camp is well organized, the kids are happy, and they have fun while learning about animals. We WILL be back next year!"
— Chris Andrews ★★★★★
"What an experience! The owners are so kind and generous. The farm is pristinely clean, the animals are well groomed, and the playground is just what my children needed to run off some energy. Well done, Red Barn Farm, well done!"
— Nick A. ★★★★★
We know you’re trusting us with your favorite humans. Our systems, staff and daily routines are built with safety and supervision at the center.
Low camper-to-staff ratios and small groups all day.
Staff are background-checked, trained in first aid/CPR and farm safety.
Secure check-in and check-out with approved grown-ups only.
Shaded rest spots, hydration breaks and weather-aware activity plans.
Clear allergy protocols and animal interaction guidelines.
You’ll receive pre-camp emails with what to pack, where to go and who to contact during the day. During camp, our staff keep tight headcounts, use walkie-talkies and maintain visual supervision in all activity areas.
If anything comes up—big or small—you hear from us. We’d rather over-communicate than leave you wondering how the day is going.
If you’re wondering about it, another parent probably asked us last year too.
You'll be able to share detailed allergy and medical information during registration. Dennita reviews every form before camp begins, and all staff are briefed on each camper's needs. We maintain strict policies around food sharing, handwashing after animal contact, and safe snack/lunch areas. If your child carries an inhaler or EpiPen, we'll work with you at drop-off to make sure it's labeled, accessible, and that every staff member on-site knows exactly what your child needs.
We run mostly outdoors, but we always put safety and comfort first. On very hot, rainy or stormy days, we move activities into our covered and indoor farm spaces, shorten time in direct sun, and build in extra water and rest breaks. If severe weather is forecast, we’ll email parents with any schedule adjustments or instructions.
We know summer plans can change. Full details will be listed on the registration page, but in general we allow date changes when space is available. We can offer full refunds 90 days out. If your child is sick, we’ll do our best to work with you to find a new week.
As we get close to camp, you’ll be e-mailed a simple packing checklist. In general, we recommend a labeled water bottle, closed-toe shoes that can get dirty, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen already applied, a packed lunch and snacks (for full-day campers), and a change of clothes for younger campers. Please leave toys and electronics at home.
Yes! Most families do. You can select several sessions for the same child, and then repeat the process for siblings. You’ll see all of your chosen weeks in your cart before you check out, so it’s easy to add or remove sessions until your summer feels just right.
Yes! Most of our campers are meeting farm animals for the first time, and our staff love that. We start slow — showing kids how to approach animals gently, what each animal likes (and doesn't), and building comfort at their own pace. By mid-week, the kid who was nervous about the chickens is usually the one carrying them around. No farm experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get a little dirty.
Yes. We offer Extended Pickup from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Thursday. Please note that extended pickup is not available on Fridays. The cost is $75 per week. Extended pickup must be discussed with a staff member on the first day of drop-off, and payment is required that morning (cash or credit card accepted). If you have any further questions, please feel free to email us.
Pick your Program, choose your weeks, and you're done. It takes about two minutes.
You can add multiple kids and weeks before checking out — no need to register separately for each child.
